what are the biological functions of meiosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The main function of meiosis is sexual reproduction. This process is known to shuffle the cell's genes around and it creates a second division soon after creating the first. This divides the number of chromosomes into two resulting in a haploid cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

biological function of meiosis is keeping the chromosome no of a species constant, meiosis is a reductional division,it produces 4 haploid(n) cells(either female/egg,or male/sperms).then at the time of fertilisation they fuesd & make the species chromosome no fixed by producing zygote(2n).in this process the continuoty of a species remains.
