Which of the following describes how to translate the graph y = |x| to obtain the graph of y = |x| - 4? 4 units up 4 units down 4 units left 4 units right

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

I believe -4 goes to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought so too but wasnt sure

If you don't recognize the ways that a graph is being translated, a good way to check is by plugging in points. For |x| try a few positive numbers and a few negative numbers. You'll notice the translation after a few. It's not to the right.

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

he is right goes down

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

unless is written as (x-4)^2 then goes to the right
