PLEASE HELP!!!!?? What is the length of the base of a yield sign that has a height of 14 inches and an area of 84 square inches????

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yield sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cwrw238

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a yield sign is a triangle, right? so the area would be the height x base x 1/2, so 14/2 x base=84 7 x base = 84 base = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer ..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, pretty much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its wrong i just tried it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really.... what level math is this? It's possible that they also consider the round corners if its higher-level.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Geometry. and i dont think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but we can try it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, right, then I think it would be 28/sqrt3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would get a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it's an equilateral triangle, so they might be talking about using the 30-60-90 triangle trig equality to find the base. Decimal? Are you not supposed to get a decimal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it doesnt really work with the area, but that's pretty much the only other possible answer there is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and since the area method doesnt work out, it would 90% be a typo in the question and this one is right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So whats the final answer ? @vipergirl81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and its not a typo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got a long decimal
