What is a split infinitive?

OpenStudy (nory):

A split infinitive is a sentence construction where there is an adverb between the word "to" and the verb. Example: This is not a split infinitive: "I am going to make a bold choice." This is a split infinitive: "I am going to boldly make a choice." Does that make sense? (P.S. This should probably go in the English section in the future.)
