What is a split infinitive? Does anyone know the history of where this term originated from? Can you please give me an example of what a split infinitive is? Thank you. I appreciate your help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A split infinitive is an English-language grammatical construction in which a word or phrase, usually an adverb or adverbial phrase, comes between the marker to and the bare infinitive (uninflected) form of a verb. Example: I need you all to really pull your weight. I'm gonna totally pulverise him.
