The graph of g(x)=8x2+ 7x - 2 is translated up 7 units to produce the graph of the function h(x). Which ofthe following could be h(x)? h(x) = 8x2+ 7x - 9 h(x) = 8x2+ 7x + 5 h(x) = 8x2+ 7x - 9 h(x) = 8x2+ 7x - 5 medal rewarded

OpenStudy (nory):

Suppose we have a function f(x). To translate f(x) some units up, say z units up, you do f(x) + z. z = 7. So you just do the original h(x) + 7. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you plug in the 7 some where?

OpenStudy (nory):

No. You just add 7. It's really easy, because you're just translating up. If you were translating to the left or right...that would be a different matter.

OpenStudy (nory):

Good question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give me a visual please? im a visual learner

OpenStudy (nory):

I'll try.|dw:1374900012454:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so the answer would be h(x)=8x^2+7x+5?

OpenStudy (nory):

Yes it would.

OpenStudy (nory):

thanks for the medal. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

np :) can you help me w.i.th something else?

OpenStudy (nory):

Definitely! What do you want help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well idk how to uploade it so give me one min please

OpenStudy (nory):

I don't like to download stuff, so if you write it out... but if I have to download it, I will.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a table so i was trying to take a pic of it and attach it

OpenStudy (nory):

Sure. Maybe put it in a separate question so that this question doesn't get too long?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Q 7&8 so i did it the normal way and plugged it into the calc.. and the answers i got werent on the choices so idk what i did wrong

OpenStudy (nory):

I really don't know how to model functions. It was in my algebra textbook but I never bothered to learn how to do it on a calculator. Sorry. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thats fine

OpenStudy (nory):

I guess you just have to know your specific calculator...maybe try your calculator manual? Or your calculator book? I have a whole book about my calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt get one

OpenStudy (nory):

That's okay.
