A certain mountain has an elevation of 19,402sq.ft. In 1903, the glacier in this peak covered 7 acres. By 2000 this glacier had melted to only one acre. A.) Assume that the glacier melted at a constant rate each year. Find this yearly rate B.) Use the answer from part A to write a linear equation that gives the acreage A of this glacier years past 1903

@Nory

OpenStudy (nory):

In 97 years, it melted 6 acres. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (nory):

So I believe the yearly rate would be 6/97. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7/97?

OpenStudy (nory):

Why 7? It went from 7 acres to 1 acre, and 7 - 1 = 6. You could be right, though. But I think it's 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see now. ok so then it would be 6/97

OpenStudy (nory):

Yeah. So that's your answer for a).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How abt for part B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it already, thanks for your help:) \
