Select the system of equations that corresponds to the given graph. a graph with two lines. Both lines pass through the points negative 2 comma 0 and 0 comma negative 4. -2x - y = 4 2x + y = -2 -8x - 4y = 16 -4x - 2y = 8 x - 2y = 6 -2x + y = 4 2x + 3y = 6 3x + 2y = 4

I have a feeling its A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or c

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

|dw:1374952465614:dw| that's one line, can you draw the 2nd line?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

keep in mind that \({\bf\text{Both lines pass through}} \text{ the points (-2, 0) and (0,-4)}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what would the second line be?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

how does it sound to you the 2nd line would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2,0) and (-2,0)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\({\bf\text{Both lines pass through}} \text{ the points (-2, 0) and (0,-4)}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its A

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hehe, no

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so if both lines pass through the same points, what does that mean?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if you're asked to draw a line on paper then asked to draw a 2nd line on the same paper, over the same exact points the one before, what does that tell you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there the same line

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

|dw:1374953118609:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that's exactly right cause the graph is of two of the same equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

theyre the same line

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

which means, the equation for line 1 is EXACTLY the same equation for line 2 so in your system of equations there are 2 lines which are the same but one is disguised by being multiplied by a number, like say x + 2y = 5 2x + 4y = 10 the 2nd is the same as the 1st, just multiplied by 2

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

and where those are, that's the answer
