The church is 50 feet north and 100 feet east of the town center and the school is 100 feet north and 200 feet east of the town center. The coffee shop is the midpoint of these two places. How far north and how far east is the coffee shop from the town center ??

It's nice to draw a picture with these things, so I'll do that:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :)

OpenStudy (psymon):

|dw:1374952964980:dw| So from here, you use the midpoint formula. The midpoint formula is (x1+x2)/2 , (y1+y2)/2. The only tricky part is the order in which is information is given gives you a y-coordinate first, which can easily mess ya up. So that being said, by two x-values are 100 and 200, so I will do (100+200)/2 = 150. The y-values are 50 and 100, so I do (50+100)/2 = 75. So the coordinates of the coffee shop would be (150,75), or 150 feet east and 75 feet north. Again, the information is kinda given backwards, so it might be weird.

Its wrong

@Psymon

OpenStudy (psymon):

I see. I betcha I did it backwards just like I was saying was possible in my explanation :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75 feet north nd 150 feet east

OpenStudy (psymon):

Which was wrong apparently.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I already tired (75,100) are you supposed to write it with the words or in parenthesis/

OpenStudy (psymon):

I could be missing something obvious, but I still get (150,75). Depending on what kind of program you're doing homework on, it might be very cranky about how you answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see it your formulas right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slide 5

OpenStudy (psymon):

It is. But if the answer is still wrong, then Im willing to accept that Im doing a stupid mistake.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its supposed to be in ( , ) because the notes they gave me were in parentheses.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just did it and i got (75,150)
