Jackson put ten gallons of gasoline in his dad”s car and spent twenty-five dollars. Use a direct variation to determine how many gallons of gasoline he put in his mom”s car if he spent thirty dollars. 5 gal 12 gal 15 gal 25 gal

this is pretty simple. you take 10 and divide it by 25. then take your answer, and multiply it by 30.

@tylerj37 12.. TY!

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

right or create a proportion to help you visualize this problem better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jamierox4ev3r thanks too!

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

\(\frac{10}{25}\)=\(\frac{x}{30}\)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

dunno if you can see that, but cross-multiply and then simplify the equation.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

300=25x

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

300 divided by 25=12

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so your answer is 12 gallons

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Does that make sense? @Juliette32801 ?
