Under a dilation, triangle XYZ where X(1, 3), Y(-2, -4), and Z(5, -2.5) becomes triangle X’Y’Z’ where X’(2.5, 7.5), Y’(-5, -10), and Z’(12.5, -6.25). What is the scale factor for this dilation? Answers 2/5 -2/5 2.5 -2.5
seriously.. ^
is it -2.5 ?
The scale factor of a dilation is the x-coordinate of a point of the image divided by the x-coordinate of the original point. Try with different points, and with the y-coordinate to be sure of your answer.
-2.5 is not right, but you seem to have an idea.
eh.. idk. hah
would it be in a fraction like 2/5 ?
Did you have a chance to look at my previous comment?
yeah but its confusing to me hah
Choose a point, say X. What is the x-coordinate of X'? and What is the x-coordinate of X?
1 and 2.5 ?
Well, x of X' (image) is 2.5 x of X (original point) is 1 The dilation factor is x of image / x of original point Do you get it?

yeah I got it kinda. so then it would be 2.5?
Exactly. Now double check with other points, or with y-coordinates. You should get the same value.
yeah I did :) thanks.
way to go! :)
