Can anybody explain how to solve this?

Answers D in this one. because if you factor the function given: (x-3)(x-1)(x+3) < 0 solve each inequality for x you get x<3 and x < 1 and x < -3 so the values of x range between 1 and 3 and then -3 to infinity.
