A number is divided by 3. If 8 is subtracted from the quotient you get -6. what is the number? A. -6 B. 3 C. 6 D. 42

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

A number, n, is divided by 3... n/3 8 is subtracted from the quotient... n/3 - 8 It's equal to -6 \[\Large \frac{ n }{3 }-8 = -6\]

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

From here you can either solve that, or just try out the numbers they gave you to see which works. ie replace n with -6, check if it's true; replace n with 3, check if it's true and so on.
