A number, n, is divided by 3... n/3 8 is subtracted from the quotient... n/3 - 8 It's equal to -6 \[\Large \frac{ n }{3 }-8 = -6\]
From here you can either solve that, or just try out the numbers they gave you to see which works. ie replace n with -6, check if it's true; replace n with 3, check if it's true and so on.
