What is the difference between fiction and creative nonfiction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fiction: Is telling a story with events that are not real. Creative nonfiction: A genre of writing that uses literary styles and techniques to create factual writing. Hope this helps :)

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Fiction is basically a story with fictional elements and is not real. Creative fiction is, as @zoiemoka says, a non-fiction writing that uses literary styles and techniques. So basically, creative fiction won't seem like you are reading a text book. Here are some Modern Creative Non-fiction examples: Susan Orlean, My Kind of Place: Travel Stories from a Woman Who's Been Everywhere Tobias Wolff, This Boy's Life: A Memoir Russell Baker, Growing Up Alan Bennett, Untold Stories
