How does your table read? From the middle out, tail probabilities or cumulative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how do I do this looking at the table? cuz there's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, i'll have a look

Unfortunately, your table is a cumulative table and doesn't have a picture. This is so not helpful. Let me seach the web to see if I can find one that will be more instructional.

ohh. are all tables same?

No. This one read the probability from the middle to the z-score. the mean is in the middle, the total area under the curve is 1 and the area to the right of the mean equals the area to the left of the mean, namely 1/2. To use this you need the z-score. In your picture (problem) you have z1 = -1.2 and z2 = 0.85. So the area = the probability. Thus the area from -1.2 to 0.85 = .3849 + .3023 = .6872 Look up the values 1.20 and 0.85 in the table. The column contains the number up to the tenths and the hundredths go across the top.
