Can you help me define Allusion? If you can also give me an example and find what are the illusion in this poem: what god has promised God has not promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways all our lives through; God has not promised sun without rain. joy without sorrow, peace without pain. But God has promised strength for the day, rest for the weary, light for the way, grace for the trials, help from above, unfailing sympathy, undying love.

An allusion is a figure of speech that makes a reference to, or a representation of, people, places, events, literary work, myths, or works of art, either directly or by implication. Try yourself !:)

@zoiemoka ok I understand it give a reference but for this poem. is it giving a biblical reference just because God is in the poem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zoiemoka Thanks its just that I'm writing an interpretation essay on this poem and was just wondering what word exactly in this poem is an allusion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and where it is referring to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the first sentence has God which is biblical. Allusions engage the reader and will often help the reader remember the message or theme of the passage. That is like the word Promised in there and sympathy
