Use synthetic division to determine whether the number k is an upper or lower bound (as specified for the real zeros of the function f). k = 2; f(x) = 2x^3 + 4x^ 2 + 2x - 4; Lower bound? Yes or no?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

If after doing synthetic division, the row of answers is all positive, it's an upper bound.

thanks so much!!

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Synthetic division: |dw:1375135202964:dw| now you can decide.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

And it's a lower bound, if you divide by a negative root, and the row of answers alternate in sign, like + - + -. Zero counts as either + or - as needed.
