A cube measures ten inches on each side. A rectangular prism is 5 inches long and 5 inches wide. Which of the following does the height of the rectangular prism have to be in order to make the volumes of the cube and the rectangular prism equal? help me please and the choices are 100 in, 40 in, 10 in, or 5 in
The height of the rectangular prism can be the same as the cube because cubes and rectangular prisms practically share the same properties except that rectangular prisms have taller lengths.
ok, i just need help on how to solve it,
The height should be the same measurements.
Sure. On calculating the volume of three dimensional figures, multiply the length times width times height (l*w*h)
So multiply 5*5*10
250
Correct!
that's not one of the choices though
?????
First figure out the volume of the cube: 10 X 10 X 10 = 1000 cubic inches. Now figure what the height of the rectangular prism nees to be to equal 1000 cu in. 1000 = 5 X 5 X h (h = height) Can you take it from there?
5 X 5 X 10= 250
i'm getting 250, but that's not one of the choices
25h=1000 h=1000/25 h = 40 in. Use algebra it works!
okay, thank you so much :)
