OpenStudy (ja1):

How would you factor this into two binomials being that there is no GCF?

OpenStudy (ja1):

\[x^2 + 2x - 3\]

OpenStudy (ja1):

I lost it for a second there

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hmmmm idk .....

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Do you mean imaginary roots?

OpenStudy (ja1):

lol thanks anyways :D

OpenStudy (uri):

:(

OpenStudy (ja1):

wat?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

:S

OpenStudy (ja1):

If it helps here is the full question.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Try the discriminant and see.

OpenStudy (uri):

I would just see the effing quad formula.

OpenStudy (uri):

use* not see

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

\[\sqrt{b^2-4ac}\]

OpenStudy (ja1):

No guys this is algebraic ratios

OpenStudy (uri):

Discrimant? o_O Nuu

OpenStudy (ja1):

OpenStudy (ja1):

There you go, now how to factor the numerator?

OpenStudy (uri):

Can we do the middle term breaking?

OpenStudy (ja1):

I need it in two binomials so....

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

:/

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You can't break it up.. I think.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

imma go back to my freshman year notes and see what i can find....yeah i still have my milk money from first grade

OpenStudy (ja1):

I know the answer... just need to know how to get there using the steps

OpenStudy (ja1):

lol jamie

OpenStudy (uri):

What is the ansur?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

And if you use the discriminant you can see it will give you an imaginary root

OpenStudy (uri):

Give me the ansur i will try reaching the solution..

OpenStudy (ja1):

Oh k one sec...

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

D:

OpenStudy (ja1):

OpenStudy (ja1):

So how did they get there?

OpenStudy (uri):

I freaking know how to do this!!

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Dude.. I feel stupid now

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

wait hold up! i think i have it! it is (x-1)(x+3), i think.... O.O

OpenStudy (ja1):

@robtobey @timo86m

OpenStudy (ja1):

Yes that is the answer LOL but how to get here? LOL luigi you are not :3

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

woah imma genius ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need two values that add together to give 2 but multiply to get -3. These would be -1 and +3.

OpenStudy (ja1):

xD

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It's because that adds up to +2 and makes a negative 3

OpenStudy (ja1):

Right right

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

i read my freshman year notes, that is how i found it :DDD

OpenStudy (ja1):

God I can't believe I forgot that D:

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Something so simple has defeated me..

OpenStudy (ja1):

ikr lol I feel yah bruh

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

woohoo lol that was hard work daaaaang lol i forgot it too. Don't worry its all good *dies*

OpenStudy (ja1):

D: Noez

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

No Jamie, I'm the one dying not you >.>

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well thanks @vinnv226 won't let my brain let that slip again

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

no i think we're both dying :P

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Together ♥ xD

OpenStudy (uri):

x^2+2x-3 x^2+3x-x-3 x(x+3)-1(x+3) (x+3)(x-1)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

btw thanks JA :D

OpenStudy (ja1):

No thank you all :D

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

This bumped my score up to 83.. yes! >.<

OpenStudy (ja1):

Can't count on the 99'rs these days can you <_<

OpenStudy (uri):

Did i do it right...?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Not sure uri lol I use a different method but the answer is ^,^

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

I'mma be a 99'r one day.. hopefully >.>

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

wut are u kidding?! @Luigi0210 no fairm oh well my smartscore just went up to 68 bout 10 minutes ago

OpenStudy (ja1):

Hope you actually help whne that occurs LOL

OpenStudy (uri):

@JA1 my ansur is right?

OpenStudy (ja1):

Well be for now, but you will be seeing a lot more of me today lol @uri yes :)

OpenStudy (ja1):

bye*

OpenStudy (uri):

When i said middle term breaking..that's what i meant to do.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

I'll try JA xD Jamie, you're a smart young lady you'll catch up :3

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

merp

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol :P
