In this discussion, you will address the importance of the minutemen and the role they played in the American Revolution.
1. Imagine that you have been asked to join the minutemen to fight the British Redcoats at Lexington and Concord in April 1775. Would you decide to join? Why or why not?

2. Despite the fact that war tactics and technology have changed since the American Revolution, can any parallels be made between the minutemen and those who serve in the military today? Explain your answer.

1. There was no "asking"...by law..all required able bodied males (not including slaves) between 16 and 60 were required to be on the militia (i.e. the minutemen)..so they really didn't have a choice other than legal consequences (not likely) and social stigma (very likely)

2. Other than being "volunteers"..no...very little. Militia troops had to supply their own equipment, were poorly trained, did not get paid and generally could not deploy outside of their state and were only called to duty for local emergencies...like to counter an Indian raid.
