"Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to different things" Would an example of this be just f(x)=x, f(x)=2x is that an example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this will not help, but i would completely disagree there is nothing that causes more confusing than giving different things the same name consider for example the equal sign in \(f(x)=2x+3\) compared to the equal sign in \(2x+3=0\) compared to the equal sign in \(2+3=5\) causes no end of confusion

That is just a famous quote in math, and we are supposed to give an example that states the quote... but im a little unclear on what the "things" are that are supposed to have the same name..... like in your example... is the equal sign the thing that is the same and the 0, f(x), and 5 are the different things that are named the same.
