Lateral faults is another way of saying strike-slip faults. Strike-slip faults have what is called lateral movement. There are two kinds: right-lateral and left-lateral. The distinction is this: if you are standing on one side of a fault and the other side has moved to your right, then it is a right-lateral fault. Visa versa for going to the left.
