is it safe to say that dispute of a contract is the same as defenses on a breach contract?

yes and no a breach is when the other person does not keep their end of the bargain, and may cause the contract to be pointless, but the other person may get arrested, or punished in some way, while in a dispute, you work out the problem with the other person instead of just having him arrested and have it take even longer to figure out the problem
