North Korea wanted to unite North and South Korea under Communist rule, but America could not allow that to happen because of their containment policy, so the Korean war began.
General Macarthur wanted to cross the Yalu river to invade China but Truman did not want to cause conflict with China so Macarthur was fired.
President Truman wanted to stop communism so he started the war in Korea in hopes of installing a capitalistic government but North Korea would not give up so easily...
China wanted the United nations to stay far from their borders but they didn't so, being afraid that they would invade China, they got involved and helped North Korea.


Sorry, I don't know much about the united nations part in the Korean war
