Suppose Rent-A-Truck s rates are $50 a day plus $0.50 per mile and Sam s U-Drive s are $70 a day plus $0.45 a mile. At what mileage would the cost for both be the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rent a truck : 50 + .50m Sams u drive : 70 + .45m at what mileage are they equal.... 50 + .50m = 70 + .45m now just solve for m.....can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so are you just subtracting from both sides & dividing ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well...yes...kinda....what you subtract from one side, you add to the other. And at the end you will have to divide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5m=20 m=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50 + .50m = 70 + .45m .50m - .45m = 70 - 50 .05m = 20 m = 20/.05 m = 400 do not forget the decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are equal at 400 miles :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i just didn't add the decimals up , but yea i see what you did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool...glad to help :)
