Why was wine adopted as a ritual drink in Christianity, but Islam prohibited the use of alcohol?
In Islam, anything that harms u is prohibited. There's reason why things are prohibited in Islam. One example is alcohol; it affects the mind and the body. It causes plenty kinds of diseases: Liver disease, Dizziness, Tuberculosis, Liver Cancer, and more. So why killing yourself with these dangerous diseases. I consider alcohol consumption a sin, because we need to fight our desires and have control over our bodies. With alcohol, you're completely out of control and might do vicious things while being unconscious. Drinking alcohol doesn't only harm yourself; you're also harming others with you. Some aggressive guys who drink alcohol and become more aggressive so when they get back home they sometimes beat their wives. It destroys your personality too. Family violence, traffic accidents, rape, street crimes are 80% more likely endorsed to alcohol and drugs. Even though some people can control themselves, but many can’t. In my opinion, alcohol needs to be prohibited by law, not only by religion beliefs. Trust me, our comunity will be safe if drugs and achohols are prohibited by LAW.
This is why it's haram. "There shall be no sin unto those who believe and do good works for what they may have consumed. So be mindful of your duty and do good works; and again: be mindful of your duty, and believe; and once again: be mindful of your duty, and do right. Allah loveth the good." (Al Ma' idah 93). "They question thee about strong drink and games of chance. Say: In both is great harm and utility for men; but the harm of them is greater than their usefulness." (Al-Baqarah 219).
As a Catholic/Christian we drink wine because in the last supper, Jesus used Bread to transform into his body and wine to transform into his blood, so that's why we use the bread and wine in Communion (our religious ritual)
Originally Islam prohibited wine, it was later added any alcohol. If its anything that harms the body why do some smoke or use intoxicating drugs?
I don't drink anymore, wine or otherwise, but still smoke. I consider myself a Christian and the origins of wine drinking goes back to the ancient Jews who had vineyards and made wine. Remember Christ is an ancient Jew.
