Gene Mutations Compare and contrast Base-Pair Substitutions and Base-Pair Insertions and Deletions.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Just as the name implies, substitution, you are substituting a single nucleotide base (can be in DNA or RNA). And base-pair insertion (keyword: INSERTION) inserts (or adds) 1+ base pairs.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

deletion is pretty intuitive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So insertion and deletion happens when nucleotides are added or removed from a DNA sequence and substitution is when a pair are replaced with a different pair of nucleotides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh, thank you very much.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Yes.
