Consider 9x-7y=-2 What is the slope of a line parallel to this line? What is the slope of a line perpendicular to this line?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

can you solve the equation for y?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

or can you tell me the slope of the line?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

@salce08 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no slope

@zzr0ck3r

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

solve the equation for y then y=mx+b m is the slope

the gradient for this line is 9/7. the gradient for the line parallel to that line is 9/7 because parallel lines have the same gradient. the gradient of the perpendicular line is the reciprocal of 9/7 which -7/9 because the gradients have to equal -1 if they're perpendicular
