r= sqrt(a^2+b^2), for some point (a,b) arctan(b/a) is the angle of that point .... might have to adjust for Q2 or Q3

there are 2 ways to express the angle/direction of this thing: (-r, angle +(2n+1) pi); and (r,angle + 2n pi)
