How do I factor this 3x^2-12?

Well first you need to take the greatest common factor out: 3(x^2-4) then factor that out: 3(x-2)(x+2)
and you will finally get 3(x-2)(x+2)
How do i find the greatest common factor?
3x^2-12 GCF is 3 because 3x1 =3 and 3x4=12
