. What is the 20th term of the arithmetic sequence 4, -2, -8, … ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the common difference?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you know the common difference you can just plug in the things that you have into the arithmetic sequence equation: a_n=a_1+(n-1)d

It looks like it grows from -4, to -6, and so on. But when I write it all out i get the wrong answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea so the common difference is -6 so plug it into the equation: a_1=first term n=position number of what you are trying to find a_n=4+(20-1)-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

110?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -110

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops, meant that. Thanks!
