please help!!!! solve the compound inequality and write the answer in interval notation. -2x<-10 and x-3<4
So first solve each inequality... what does -2x<10 solve to?
x>-5 ?
Good now solve x-3<4
x<7
great now draw a number line and graph both of those answers above it...
|dw:1375727389342:dw| It should look something like this.
how do you write those in interval notation?
Ok well we re not quite done... you have to understand the two compound words ... and & or. Do you understand the difference between x>-5 and x<7 & x>-5 or x<7...mathematically speaking?
???
no. thats why i came here. i dont understand this at all.
Ok so when we say "and" both things have to happen for it to work...but when we say "or" then only one of the two have to happen.
Think of it like this. If I say ... if your mom and dad say yes then you can go out tonight. Then that means you can go out ONLY if they BOTH say yes. but I f I say ...if your mom or dad say yes then you can go out tonight. That means as long as one of them say yes then you can go out (even if one of them says no)... do you follow me so far?
yes
Ok so now look at the number line with the two inequalities graphed above them...Where on the number line is x>-5 AND x<7
ok i think i got it now! thanks!
Ok ... We're not done ....so I hope you do get it..
What is your answer?
