OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Does the problem go with the figure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer: A.x = 4, y = 6 B.x = 6, y = 8 C.x = 8, y = 6 D.x = 20, y = 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The unknowns in the figure are q and t. The unknowns in the problem and in the choices are x and y. How does that go together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats part of the reason for why i am confused

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

This is the wrong figure for this problem. You are not confused with math, you are confused because the problem and the figure don't match. This is the wrong figure for this problem. You need a figure in which the unkowns are x and y, not q and t.

Also, in the problem you state the triangles are equal. I guess that should have been they are congruent. But the triangles in the figure are not congruent. They are at most similar.
