both figures are SIMILAR that means their sides share a common ratio or proportion on the ABCDE figure, we can see the "tick marks" and up and down is 12 and 12 the right-side slanted part is 4 and 4 so what's the left-side AB? well, we dunno but using the ration relation between both figures, we can say that 2 on the smaller one, corresponds to AB on the bigger one, as well as 4 on the smaller one, corresponds to 12 on the bigger one, that is BC = 12 or in ratio terms \(\bf \cfrac{2}{AB}=\cfrac{4}{12}\) solve for AB to find the AB side sum up all sides in ABCDE and that'd be the perimeter of it
