Write using exponents. 5 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2

OpenStudy (phi):

use the short-hand: count how many 2's are being multiplied, and put that number in the upper right of 2

OpenStudy (phi):

people use this short-cut because it is easier to write.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (phi):

what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are 4 2's being multiplied.

OpenStudy (phi):

so you write it as 2^4 or using the equation editor \[ 2^4 \] you are still multiplying by 5 in the original 5 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 so the answer is \[ 5 \cdot 2^4\]

OpenStudy (phi):

this way of writing is much faster when the problem is 2^10 or 2^20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
