i am a bit confused with total kinetic energy and its link to linear and rotational momentum. I know that E(k) total = Ek(CM) + Ek(relative to CM), I have been reading that total linear momemtum relative to CM is zero? how come?

That is the definition of the center of momentum frame -- the frame of reference where the total linear momentum of the system is zero.
