ok for a sample you want the greatest number and most varied type of people possible so what answer fits that category and for mean absolute deviation you 1. find the mean eg mean is 3 2. take all values and subtract that mean eg you have values 2,4,5 2-3=-1 4-3=1 5-3=2 3. find the mean of all those values (-1+1+2)/3
i get 0.66666666666666666666667
For the 1st question, you want the most random and accurate possible. Using parents is second-hand information and not as accurate as asking the student herself. If you can sample from students directly, make sure your sample is not biased (e.g gender bias, athletic participation bias or class bias - sometimes classes are grouped by last-name). Sampling from a set that does not have this bias would be best. For the second, the mean is \( (3*5 + 2*6)/5 = 5.4 \) for mean absolute deviation, you would take \[ (3*|5-5.4| + 2*|6-5.4|)/5 = ? \] This is taking the average of the "average absolute distance from the mean."
For the 3rd question, if there is anywhere where bias can be introduced, exclude it. I think any group of any kind would have some sort of bias. The there are some groups mentioned here, teachers, employees, gender and age. I think the group with the most diversity that is left is obvious now. For the 4th question, the sample proportion of green pencils is 8/10 and the sample of blue s 2/10. Using this a representative of the true proportion, 80% of the pencils in the bag of 100 would be green and 20% would be blue.
