When you see this, you need to have what is inside of the absolute value and set it equal to the original numbers you have on the other side as well as the negative of what is on the side. Basically, you would solve these two problems: 2y - 2 = 15 2y - 2 = -15

When having an equation like this, all you have to do is work backwards. First ignore the absolute value signs. Then, begin solving by using the opposite operation of subtraction(addition). 15+2=17 2y=17
