Civil Rights from Dred Scot to Loving vs.: Dred Scot...Blacks are not US Citizens and have no status to sue 1857 Civil War.... 1861 Plessy v Ferguson..Seperate but equal 1886 time of TKAM 1935 Brown v Board of Ed...separate is inherently unequal 1954 D Till hang for looking at a white girl 1955 pub of TKAN 1960 Loving v ? miscegenation illegal 1967 To Kill a Mock is more or less 2/3rd of the way through this movement. Homosexuals can still not marry. Is this part of a greater Rights movement? Tom killed himself, usually a group of people hung the offender is that progress? Do we recognize the undocumented migrants as people or as nonentities as in Dred Scot? Scout is the innocent looking at her society and coming to terms with its illogic and prejudices. How does Jim's death prepare the reader for the death of Tom Jewel? And want happens to Boo? Can Boo be the courts that level the Civil Rights? And how many Lawyers owe their idealism to Scouts Dad or Gregory Peck?
