We need STATUS updates on OS. For example, I should be able to leave a message that anyone can see on my user-name or something like you can on messenger or skype; the message always tags along under your name. This will allow people to know if I'm afk or not because tons of ppl pm/tag u and they have no idea that you are not even at the computer...having the ability to post messages under your user would allow others to be aware of whether you can answer their questions or not and the for why you won't be able to answer..

It's actually not a bad idea.
Like "Away" Instead of always "is just looking around"
But I think these status updates should be canned, so that people cannot create their own status (as this would probably be abused).

yeah, like a status: Online, Away, Do no Disturb, Offline, or just simply to become "invisible" even if you are still online. This invisible thing would be quite good, IMO.
