Can someone help me figure out this problem? Thank you. A stained-glass window in a church is in the shape of a square. The perimeter of the square is 7 times the length of a side in meters, decreased by 12. Find the length of a side of the window.
Remember the perimeter of a square=sum of lengths of all sides=4x (if a square has side-length of x)
let x be the length of the square, what is 7 times length decreased by 12?
I understand the 7X-12 part. I just cannot figure it out from there and how the answer comes to 4.
we haven't got to the answer yet... 7 times the length of a side in meters, decreased by 12=7x-12 (you said above) this should be equal to the perimeter of the square (which is 4x, refer to my first reply) so you can come up with an equation?
7x-12=?
Yes I believe so. 7X-12=4X
right...can you solve it for x?
yes I have it from here. Thank you very much!
