Each year, Terrell buys a plane ticket to visit his grandmother for a week. Last year, he paid one hundred thirty-five dollars. This year, he paid one hundred eighty-nine dollars. What was the percent increase in the cost of his plane ticket? Show your work.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

look for corresponding elements you have last year's fare, $135 and this year's fare, $189 we want to know the increase amount in terms of a percentage from the original price that is, we want to know how much that is, as a percentage of $135 so if we take $135 as our 100% what is the other? is x% so in terms of ratio, we can say that \(\bf \cfrac{135}{189}=\cfrac{100}{x}\)
