look for corresponding elements you have last year's fare, $135 and this year's fare, $189 we want to know the increase amount in terms of a percentage from the original price that is, we want to know how much that is, as a percentage of $135 so if we take $135 as our 100% what is the other? is x% so in terms of ratio, we can say that \(\bf \cfrac{135}{189}=\cfrac{100}{x}\)
