6x^2+78x+216 Factor

OpenStudy (psymon):

First thing I would suggest doing is factoring out a 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, 6(x+ )(x+ ) or 6(x- )(x- ) but what are the numbers?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Well, if you take out the 6 from every term, what are you left with? Then we can figure out the numbers :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+13x+13.5 ???

OpenStudy (psymon):

Should be 36 for the last one :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, must have miscalculated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I did

OpenStudy (psymon):

Either way, now we can figure out the numbers. So if you have something like ax^2 + bx + c, you figure out the missing numbers by finding 2 factors of ac that add up to b. In this case a times c = 36 and b = 13. So now you need two factors of 36 that add up to 13.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 and 4?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yep, you got it : ) So those are the missing numbers. 6(x+9)(x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yep yep
