What is the term used to describe the value of x that x cannot be, such as when x is the denominator and you know that it can't equal zero. What's the mathematical term for that number that x can't equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as in 1/(x-3) where x =/= 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah! It's driving me crazy that I can't remember the term used to describe that kind of number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we just say that there is an asymptote with the equation (x=3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, in our class atleast.... im not sure of the mathematical word

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dang it! I know there's a term for it, but it's just on the edge of my tongue XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha... i will keep thinkning about it... if i remember it, i'll let you know...

OpenStudy (anonymous):
