Solve the equation 5x = 45 7 9 5 3

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Solving the equation is finding out what x is equal to. x is being multiplied by 5. You want x by itself. In order to undo the multiplication by 5, you need to divide by 5. The rule is that you must divide both sides of an equation by the same number. \(5x = 45\) We divide both sides by 5: \(\dfrac{5x}{5} = \dfrac{45}{5} \) \(x = 9 \)
