Which is the best explanation for why the Cold War is not included in this chart? Since the Cold War didn't involve fighting, there was no money budgeted or lost in fighting the Cold War. Because the Cold War is just another name for the Vietnam War, that cost is included in the graph. The Cold War was not a conventional war, and its costs are measured by the individual proxy wars. It is included in the costs of World War II as part of the global post-war recovery.

The Cold War was not a conventional war, and its costs are measured by the individual proxy wars... The cold war was fought using surrogate countries. Soviet Union supplied cuba with missiles, while we placed puppet governments in lands closer to Russia. We spent a lot of money to carry out the Truman doctrine, a policy to provide economic and political support to the countries that were democratic and neutral, as well as the containment, limmitithng communism to lands already controlled, and finally the berlin air lift,, with 3 dropp offs of food into Germany every day
