when r is close to -1, it indicates a weak negative correlation. true or false?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because -1 is a negative and therefore its weak.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

r being close to -1 means you'll have a negative correlation yes BUT it's not a weak correlation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so false.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it would be weak if it were closer to 0 it's closer to -1, so it's actually a strong negative correlation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
