test each case let's test the 1st case y < x + 4 y < -2x + 2 point (2,3) x = 2, y = 3 y < x + 4 (3) < (2) + 4 3 < 6 # now is 3 really less than 6? well yes, so that's true ------------------------------------- y < -2x + 2 point (2,3) x = 2, y = 3 y < -2x+2 (3) < -2(2) + 2 3 < -2 #now is 3 really less than -2? well, no, so that's false so 1st case gave true and false, so no dice the solution point, will give you TRUE on both inequalities so test the others
