OpenStudy (math2400):

Really easy geo prob. I have answers can someone verify it, it's my brothers hw Answers that need to be checked: 20. 28/3 22. 17/4 Those correct? Postin pic

OpenStudy (math2400):

hero (hero):

GD + DH = GH \[4 + \frac{2}{3} + 4 \frac{2}{3} \\= 8 + \frac{4}{3} \\= 8 + \frac{3}{3} + \frac{1}{3} \\= 8 + 1 + \frac{1}{3} \\= 9 + \frac{1}{3} \\= \frac{27}{3} + \frac{1}{3} \\= \frac{28 + 1}{3}\\=\frac{28}{3}\]

hero (hero):

It's not wrong

OpenStudy (math2400):

I agree!!! Those lines do mean they are equal thou so you would just add the two to get the entire length of the segment

hero (hero):

Maybe your teacher wants it in mixed fraction form: \[\frac{28}{3} = \frac{27}{3} + \frac{1}{3} = 9 \frac{1}{3}\]

OpenStudy (math2400):

He wrote it like that two so idk! but thanks for ur help. I just wanted to verify that it was right and I wasn't going crazy

hero (hero):

I'm disappointed. I usually convert improper fractions back to mixed form. Sorry.

hero (hero):

Oh, actually, I did have it in mixed form, but converted it back to improper form.

OpenStudy (math2400):

No it's not that. I just think she made a mistake. They will take either answers

OpenStudy (math2400):

Thank you though!!

hero (hero):

Well, show it to her then get back to me on it.

OpenStudy (math2400):

will do!

hero (hero):

Oh, I know why I converted it to 28/3. It's because you posted it as your answer.

hero (hero):

@Math2400

OpenStudy (math2400):

haha yea i did but it's not a big deal. I'll have his teacher check tomorrow

OpenStudy (math2400):

wait would it be possible to right it as 8 4/3? or just 9 1/3 is the only way @Hero sorry to keep buggin you though<<

hero (hero):

\[9 \frac{1}{3} = 8 \frac{4}{3}\] However, 4/3 is still improper which means 8 + 4/3 is not in proper or "simplest" form.

hero (hero):

Since it is not in simplest form, your teacher could say it is not in proper form.

OpenStudy (math2400):

yea that's what i was thinkin too but he did also write 28/3 so idk. guess he'll find out tomorrow

hero (hero):

He's the one that wrote 28/3 ? I thought he said 28/3 is wrong.

hero (hero):

Wait..is your teacher a he or a she?

OpenStudy (math2400):

yea he wrote that and that's what his teacher said but again he's going to ask tomorrow. And it's my brothers lol and its a she teacher

hero (hero):

I see... Well, good luck... If I had known the full context of the situation, I would have left it in mixed form.
