In your own words, explain how a trinomial of the form 2x^2 + 13x + 15 can be turned into a four term polynomial suitable for factoring by grouping. Use complete sentences.
(2x+3)(x+5) it can be changed to this because.....
you are looking for a pair of numbers that yield 2 when they are multiplied together. 1 and 2 is the only option for term x^2. and you are looking for a pair of numbers that yield 15 when multiplied together. we have (1,15), (3,5).
we have 2 options to go. (1,2) combined with (1,15) or (1,2) combined with (3,5).
Multiply a by c, and then find two factors of that number whose sum is b.
Our sum has to be +13 from the given second term, but no product of (1,2) and (1,15) can yield 13. However... if you choose (1,2) with (3,5), you can have 2*5+ 1*3= 13. which is a happy answer.
